Your 5 Most Pressing Web Design Questions Answered

Hiring a web designer is one of the smartest things you can do for your business if you are creating a new website. But, it does raise a lot of questions.

Is it time for you to engage a web designer but you aren’t sure where to start? Or how it all works?

You aren’t alone!

I receive a lot of great questions from my clients when they first reach out to me. So to help you out, I have put together my top 5 web design questions and answers for engaging with a web designer. Let’s dive into them now.

1: Can you design a website within my budget?

Budget is generally a huge consideration for a business owner, so this is the most common question I get. And the answer is… most likely, yes! However, it is important that you are realistic with your budget and understand what is included.

My cost-efficient website design packages include all the essential basics, but some features take additional time and resources and will cost a bit extra. These extra costs might include domain registration and hosting, website add-ons, content writing, branding, email marketing, scheduling calendars, membership logons, and eCommerce set up.

We can work together to flesh out precisely what your website needs are, to make sure you get the best options within your budget.

2: What is your design process?

I always want to ensure I have a good understanding of what my clients need so that I can provide the best possible service to you. So to start with, we will have a chat! I will take a design brief, which includes details such as your goals for your website, the scope of the work involved, and who your target audience is.

Once we have determined what the written content and imagery will be for your site, I will create the first draft of your website homepage. I will send this to you for your review, and we will discuss and make any changes that are required.

I will then design the remaining pages of the website (for example, Blog page, About page, Contact page). Once you have approved these, I will test the site and make it live!

3: How long will it take?

You probably already know that the answer to this one is often ‘it depends’ – but let me explain why!

As a general estimate, one month from start to finish is pretty typical for my web design projects. However, this does depend on all of the content, photography and/or imagery being provided up front, and also on how many changes go back and forth during the design process.

4: Why do you need the written copy and images before designing?

The written content on your website is really important. The wording on your website is how people and search engines are directed to your site. Correctly formatting website content and using the best key words for search engine optimisation (SEO) is a bit of a specialist task, which is why I often recommend having a copywriter do this for you.

In terms of the visual content – I need to know what we are working with in terms of any existing logos, photos, colours, fonts, graphics, and/or videos that you use for your business or brand. These elements will form the foundation of your website design, so it is important that your designer has all of these available to put together a cohesive design.

5: What happens if my site needs updating in the future?

It is important to me that my clients are set up for success, so I offer a few different options regarding ongoing or future website updates.

If you would like to be able to make your own site updates and take care of the site maintenance, I can provide training for this at an additional cost. If you would like to simply send me edits to take care of for you, this can also be arranged. I can offer this as either a one-off task or as a regular maintenance package.
